In late September, Citrus College celebrated the completion of the extension of the Metro A Line during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which marked the grand opening of four new stops in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and North Pomona.

Student Trustee A.J. Hernandez served as the event’s sole student speaker, sharing the stage with dignitaries, community leaders and the event’s emcee, actor Wil Wheaton. Dr. Greg Schulz, superintendent/president of Citrus College, and Hootie, the college’s mascot, also joined in the festivities.

“Growing up in this community, I’ve seen how important access to reliable transportation is for families, students and workers,” Hernandez said during the event. “Many of us depend on public transit, not only to get to school and work, but also to stay connected with our loved ones and the opportunities that shape our lives.”

With the completion of the 9.1-mile extension, the A Line now stretches 57.6 miles and serves 48 stations. It has earned the distinction of being the longest light rail line in the world. Citrus College students can pick up a GoPass at the Campus Center, giving them unlimited free rides on Metro and Foothill Transit buses and trains. Trains run every eight minutes during peak hours, with service from 4 a.m. to midnight. For those without a GoPass, rides start at $1.75.

“Reliable transportation is more than just a way to get from point A to point B. It is an investment in people,” Hernandez said. “On behalf of the students of Citrus College, I want to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to make this project a reality.”
